Hello! My name is Amy Hansen & I am the MS/HS counselor at Northwood-Kensett. I will soon start my 16th year in the N-K district, and I'm excited to start my 10th year in my dream job as school counselor this fall. I am one of several Mrs. Hansens here in our school district.
I graduated from Saint Ansgar High School in 2004. I then earned my AA degree at Riverland Community College in Austin, MN in 2006, and my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Iowa State University in May 2008. I was hired by Northwood-Kensett to teach middle & high school English soon after. Not long into my teaching career, I discovered that I really wanted to eventually become a school counselor, and I earned my Masters degree in Professional School Counseling from Buena Vista University in 2013. Recently, completed enough MFA courses in Writing to qualify to teach college-level composition in Iowa. My interest in learning never seems to be finished.
I have passion for preparing secondary students for life beyond our school walls, and I welcome students and their parents alike to take an active role in discovering the passions that will lead them to become fulfilled, productive citizens.
I really enjoy my time in the MS life skills classroom as well. Each hex this past year provided fun and interesting opportunities for the students and me to learn from each other while preparing for many of the challenges that life inevitably hands every one of us.
If you'd like to chat, you can call me at school. We have a new menu system that will direct you to my phone line:
